Hansi (Johanna J. L.) Engel studied at the Silvermine School of Art in New Canaan ,CT, under Charlie Read, Robert Baxter, Anne Thoulmin-Roth, and Joan Heston. Her medium is watercolor. She has participated in workshops with Frank Webb, Charles Sovek, Janet Walsh, Don Andrews, Marija McCarthy, Joe Fettingis and in Punta Gorda with Diane Mannion.
She has exhibited her works in many local shows, as well as at the VAC in Punta Gorda, Florida. At Waveny her “Contemplation” won a third prize, at the Greenwich YMCA her “Bittersweet” a second, and at the Pink Tent Festival in Stamford her “Marshall” a first. In 2006 her “Mirrored Image” hung in the Hudson Valley Art Association show in New York City. Her works are hanging on three continents and in many homes on the east and the west coast.
At home in Connecticut she loves to paint the many flowers in her garden. In Punta Gorda she has enjoyed painting with Clare Harvey’s plein air group and with the VAC’s Thursday portrait painters for many years.
